Sunrise Home Youth Development Center & Orphanage in Myanmar
Dedicated to helping Myanmar's children in need,
since 2007
OUR MISSION is to offer underprivileged children from Myanmar, wholesome and welcoming housing,
adequate food, a safe, harmonious and enriching environment, enabling them to develop physically,
intellectually, socially as well as spiritually.
OUR VISION consists in guiding each child in such a manner that he/she will grow up feeling confident,
surrounded by respect, unconditional love, compassion and dignity. We hope that these values will
lead them to a promising future enabling them to become committed citizens.
OUR STORY formerly began in March 2007. But as early as 2002, following a few stays in India to work
with Mother Teresa, Mama Louise, a nurse from Quebec City (Canada) chose to pursue her humanitarian commitment by teaching English in a monastery, to young people of underprivileged areas of Myanmar.
As the years went by, she noticed poverty all around her.
During a conversation with the monk in charge, she decided to support his idea of opening an orphanage.
Between 2007 and 2008, more than 35 children were able to call this their home.
One year later the construction of a school was initiated, that later was offered to the local community.
Today, in 2019, the Sunrise Home orphanage shelters 54 children.
The dream came through and keeps on growing, thanks to the implication of the Association Entraide Myanmar
(a Quebec group created in 2008), the work of numerous volunteers, generous donations from individuals and foundations, as well as the constant and precious cooperation of the co-founding monk and devoted Burmese.
*Sunrise Home Youth Development Center is located on the outskirts of Yangon.
